CAE Exam Sections
CAE Reading Exam
Designed to measure your English reading skills. The total duration of the exam is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
- Texts from various genres such as newspaper articles, literary books, advertisements, and brochures.
- Contains four different texts, each averaging 700-900 words.
- Tests details, main ideas, and your interpretation skills.
CAE Writing Exam
Consists of two different writing tasks to be completed in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
- Tasks may include writing an article, essay, letter, email, or report.
- Expected to follow specific word limits and formatting rules.
- Grammar, spelling, and clear expression of ideas are evaluated.
CAE Speaking Exam
Contains 4 sections and usually takes about 15 minutes. It can be done individually or in groups.
- Part 1: General conversation with the examiner.
- Part 2: Speaking about provided pictures.
- Part 3: Improvisation and role-play with other candidates.
- Part 4: In-depth discussion about the related topic.
CAE Listening Exam
Consists of 4 different sections and 30 questions. Lasts approximately 40 minutes.
- Listen to radio programs, interviews, presentations, and daily conversations.
- Each audio recording is played a maximum of two times.
- Measures the ability to follow spoken materials and catch details.
CAE Exam Scoring System
Valid scores for the C1 Advanced Exam are between 160-210. A score of 180 or above is considered a 'pass'.
